There is general consensus that shortwave geoengineering as a climate management option requires both responsible research as well as international governance. However, such proposals are insufficiently informed by coupled scientific-ethical considerations. This analysis will seek to identify the natural and social scientific assessments required to assure economically efficient and ethically defensible geoengineering research and policy strategies.
